A father and son died in northwestern Wisconsin Saturday when they got trapped in the grain silo in which they were working according to a report at BringMetheNews.com.
Barron County Sheriff's Office confirmed that 51-year-old Daniel Briel and his 14-year-old son, David, were killed when there was an "internal collapse of silage" in the silo south of Barron, about 40 miles east of the Minnesota border.
Another male in the silo at the time was able to get out and call 911.
Fire crews were able to use thermal imagine devices to locate the pair and extricate them from the material, but they were pronounced dead despite life-saving efforts.
"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Briel family and special thanks goes out to all the emergency responders, family and friends that came out to the scene to help and support each other," Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald said.
Grain silos are known to be one of the most hazardous places to work in any industry.
Bloomberg reports there were 29 entrapment incidents reported on farms in 2016, of which 18 proved fatal.
