Farm co-ops are under increasing pressure to merge as their business models have changed, global competition has increased and the farm economy has declined.
"Anytime there's economic pressure on any business, it drives consolidation," said Roger Kienholz, general manager of Crystal Valley Co-op, based in Lake Crystal.
