Claims the feed facility released polluted storm water

Judge

Don Jenkins with Capital Press reported on two environmental groups, Puget Soundkeeper Alliance and Re Sources for Sustainable Communities, suing Cargill Inc.'s Ferndale Grain in Ferndale, WA over posable violations of the Clean Water Act. The lawsuit claims that the feed facility released storm water containing too much zinc and copper into a ditch that leads to other waterways. The suit seeks penalties of $52,414/day and alleges that the violations have been ongoing over the past few years. The groups also want compensation for attorneys and expert witnesses and to be part of developing and implementing a new pollution plan.
