Bayer Close to Settling 50,000 to 80,000 Roundup Suits

Part of a 10 billion dollar plan to end claims

Judge

Jef Feeley and Tim Loh reported for Bloomberg that Bayer is close to settling 50,000 to 80,000 lawsuits filed over claims that their Roundup weed killer is connected to non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. The settlement includes payouts of a few million to a few thousand, will allow Roundup to be sold with no warning label, and stop the clients' attorneys from taking new Roundup cases or advertising for new clients.

The link between Roundup and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma has not been proven, but after three trials were lost in court, ordering the company to pay $2.4 billion in damages, the number of cases against the company has ballooned to 150,000. Despite the settlements Bayer still plans to appeal those cases.
