The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) has completed the development of a standard that provides design recommendations for new steel grain storage bins.

With recommendations for bin access, anchor attachment points, and safety decals, ANSI/ASABE S624, Grain Bin Access Design Safety, is intended to provide enhanced protection for those who must enter grain bins, helping them to accomplish their task with higher awareness and understanding of the hazards surrounding them and of the provisions to be taken.

The developing committee comprised members of ASABE’s Structural Engineering technical committee and of the Grain Elevator and Processing Society (GEAPS), including academic researchers, safety experts, and end users.

ASABE members with standards access and those with site-license privileges can access the full-text via electronic download on the ASABE online Technical Library at elibrary.asabe.org/. Others can obtain a copy for a fee directly from the library or by contacting ASABE headquarters at [email protected].
