Alliance Stakeholders Summit Panel to Discuss Marketing

Online registration closes Monday

The theme of next week’s 2017 Animal Agriculture Alliance Stakeholders Summit will be “Connect to Protect Animal Ag,” meaning, how everyone with a vested interest in animal agriculture can find common ground and speak with a united voice, rather than focusing on differences in production methods. One panel in particular – “We’re All In This Together: Marketing Without Disparaging” - will delve deeply into how producers and companies can differentiate between products without casting a negative light on other options. The 2017 Summit will be held May 3-4 in Kansas City, Mo. Online registration for the event is open through Monday.

Panelists for the “Marketing Without Disparaging” discussion will be:

  • Phil Stayer, D.V.M., M.S., A.C.P.V., corporate veterinarian, Sanderson Farms. Stayer’s primary responsibilities include overseeing live bird health programs, biosecurity and animal welfare in flocks from Texas to North Carolina. He will discuss Sanderson Farms’ “Truth About Chicken” marketing campaign.
  • JoDee George, group leader, Bader Rutter. George is focused on helping food and agriculture clients in the areas of marketing and brand strategy, customer engagement approaches, content and insight strategy and execution. She began her career in issues management and has three Public Relations Society of America Silver Anvil awards for issues and reputation management campaigns from work with beef and pork industry associations.
  • Jack Hubbard, chief marketing officer, American Humane Association. Hubbard oversees American Humane’s marketing, fundraising and communications campaigns. He is a successful entrepreneur with a proven track record in branding, marketing and startup ventures with nearly a decade of experience in public relations.

"Consumers have more options in the grocery store than ever before – which is a wonderful thing," said Kay Johnson Smith, Alliance president and CEO. "Our challenge in the agriculture and food industry is how to promote different choices to consumers without stating or implying that others are unsafe or unethical. Anyone involved in the production or marketing of food would benefit from being a part of this conversation at next week’s Summit.”
