Feed Energy announced today the launch of two new products, LIVE and LIVE PLUS. The products were originally unveiled during last week’s World Pork Expo in Des Moines.
LIVE, an acronym standing for Low Iodine Value Energy, is a blend of certified tallow products featuring a low iodine value and low amounts of free fatty acids while delivering a high level of supplemental energy to swine diets. LIVE PLUS is a blend of certified tallow products and vegetable oils which deliver higher levels of metabolizable energy and also features a low iodine level.
The iodine value of a pig’s diet has been proven by researchers to indicate the firmness of the fat and to be an effective indicator for the quality of the meat. Supplemental fats and oils in the diet can be one of the largest contributors to higher iodine values in pigs. However, reducing the amount of supplemental fats and oils can have negative consequences on the energy level of pigs and reduce the feed conversion and daily rate of gain. Feed Energy has solved this problem by formulating two supplemental energy products with low level iodine values and which deliver the required boosts in energy.
“The world of animal nutrition is getting more complicated and challenging for pork producers,” said Troy Shoen, LIVE product manager. “Feed Energy has figured out a way to deliver a superior supplemental energy product to help make things simpler for those formulating feed in the swine industry.”
