Southern States – Roanoke Named 2012 Feed Mill of the Year
Kent Nutrition Group of Rockford, IL, named runner-up
Rich Sladic, Southern States, echoed those sentiments, stating “Feed Mill of the Year is the only program out there that allows a third-party to give you an unbiased assessment on your facility. The feedback is critical to determining what strengths, weaknesses, challenges and opportunities your facility has when compared with other feed manufacturing facilities around the country. Being acknowledged by AFIA is about as high of an honor one can get in this profession.”
Selection of the top plant starts with an online application process and concludes with personal visits to the top sites by an inspection team from AFIA and Feedstuffs. Final selection is based on a combined scoring of the application and personal visit.
The winner of the 2011 program was Cargill Animal Nutrition of Wooster, Ohio, and Southern States’ Winchester Mill in Winchester, Ky., was the runner-up.
