Novus International, Inc. recently announced its support of the International Egg Commission's (IEC) involvement with a new partnership that was launched by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in July 2012. The purpose of the partnership is to improve and harmonize the way in which the environmental impacts of the livestock industry are measured.
"Novus is proud to be involved with the IEC and FAO in helping ensure that the livestock industry is doing its part to sustainably meet the growing global need for nutrition and health," stated Thad Simons, President and CEO, at Novus. "When the IEC approached the various livestock councils and organizations, Novus was more than willing to step up and participate in the life-cycle and environmental impact assessment of the industry in areas including greenhouse gas emissions (GHG)."
With the world population expected to reach more than 9 billion people by 2050, meeting the increased demand for food will create a huge challenge for the industry. "Feeding the world long-term will require striking the right balance between increasing production by incorporating new technologies, while using the same or fewer resources," said Dr. Scott Carter, Executive Manager, Global Monogastric Market, at Novus. "We're pleased that the FAO partnership is placing significant emphasis on science-based solutions, rather than feelings."
Support from Novus will be both financial and in-kind, as the company will lend its expertise and guidance.
