Anonymous Donor Gives Rural Indiana Fire Station Grain Rescue Tube
Budget-strapped department grateful for donation
Recently, an anonymous donor gave the Allendale Rural Fire Protection District (ARFPD) a grain bin rescue tube. A rescue tube is a valuable piece of emergency equipment when rescuing someone trapped by grain in a grain bin accident.
The cylindrical tube consists of four curved aluminum sections that link together. The grain rescue tube can be transported to any grain bin entrapment and the sections lowered into the grain bin through the grain bin openings. Once in place around the entrapped victim, the grain rescue tube alleviates pressure from the surrounding grain or other flowing material, and allows rescuers to “package” the victim for safe removal. The department also believes the tube would be a valuable asset in trench rescues.
