Neogen Corporation has developed a new quantitative lateral flow test for aflatoxin that requires only a water-based solution for extraction — completely eliminating the need for methanol or ethanol in the extraction process. Neogen’s new Reveal® Q+ for Afl atoxin Green delivers precise results ranging from 2 to 150 parts per billion (ppb) of afl atoxin after only 6 minutes. Reveal Q+ test strips are read in Neogen’s AccuScan® lateral fl ow test reader to deliver quantitative results.
“Reveal Q+ for Afl atoxin Green delivers rapid, fully quantitative test results, and eliminates the need to handle and use hazardous materials in the testing process,” said Ed Bradley, Neogen’s vice president for Food Safety.
“The use of a water-based solution also simplifi es the shipment of our products by eliminating the need for ground shipping for ethanol. If needed, we can now ship afl atoxin tests overnight to customers. Reveal Q+ for Aflatoxin Green simplifi es the whole process.”
Reveal Q+ for Afl atoxin Green offers room temperature incubation of the test strip and storage of the test kit — eliminating the need for an incubator and refrigeration space. The test requires minimal equipment to achieve precise results.
Neogen’s AccuScan® III reader provides an easy method to objectively read, store, and analyze results from Neogen’s line of lateral fl ow tests. AccuScan provides a permanent result that can be incorporated into a company’s food safety plan, such as HACCP.
Aflatoxin is considered by many to be the most potent, naturally-occurring carcinogen. The toxin is a byproduct of mold growth in a wide range of commodities, including corn.
