Iowa Man Rescued After Three Hours in Grain Bin
Protected by a harness and tether, victim remained in stable condition throughout the ordeal
Firefighters freed a man trapped for more than three hours in a grain bin on at a co-op near Elkhart. A helicopter airlifted the man, Steve Kaufman, 56, of Ankeny, to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
The 105,000-bushel bin, which was about one-quarter full of corn, is at Heartland Co-Op, 4300 N.E. 94th St. east of Ankeny in the unincorporated community of Enterprise.
