SGS Market Research Carries Out Review for Illinois Soybean Association
Interviewed nearly 220 stakeholders to seek their opinion on current research projects and potential future ones
In March 2010, SGS Market Research carried out a comprehensive review of the Public and Private Research Programs that impact the soybean supply chain in Illinois for the Illinois Soybean Association (ISA).
To achieve this required identifying and interviewing a wide range of stakeholders to seek their opinion on both current research projects and potential future research requirements, 200 Illinois soybean growers were interviewed as well as 19 intermediaries (advisors to growers, salesmen and agricultural retail outlets). This was supplemented by four in depth interviews with executives involved in food production and input supply to the Illinois soybean industry. The next stage was to analyze the existing programs and cross reference them against the perceived needs of the stakeholders. This stage was carried out by an SGS Field Researcher and an SGS Technical Oversight Committee from Brookings, SD, consisting of a Seed Services Director, Genetics Services Director and a Contract Laboratory Director.
ISA has a distinguished history of supporting new and innovative soybean research both to support growers but also in areas such as human health, bio-fuel production and livestock nutrition. In 2010, ISA introduced the Soybean Yield Challenge, where teams of growers and advisors are able to use their expertise and compete to set new standards in soybean production.
