Doug Jensen, 69, spent 33 years in the grain industry

Doug Jensen of Tellico Village, Loudon, TN, died peacefully Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at home with his family after a 10-week battle with brain cancer.

Doug JensenDoug was born on October 7, 1950 in Omaha, NE and raised in Bloomington, MN. He met and married Toby while a student at the University of Minnesota; graduating with a B.S. in Civil Engineering.

His first job with Fegles Power Service as a structural engineer took them to Vancouver, BC. After two years, he was hired by Cargill, moved back to MN and worked in the grain industry, where he spent the remaining 33 years of his career.

His different positions took him and his family from Minnesota, to Tennessee, to Ohio and back to Minnesota. Doug retired at the age of 55 and never looked back.

He and Toby loved spending time together golfing, sailing, traveling and were actively involved in all the churches they attended. They moved to Tellico Village in 2008 where they found their dream home on the lake.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Axel and Helen Jensen and a brother, Brad Jensen.

He is survived by his loving wife of almost 49 years, Toby; son Jesse and (Heidi) Jensen, daughter Tracy (Jensen) Sprout and (Joe) grandchildren Caleb, Sarah, Rachel and Julia Jensen; Jaiden, Will and Hailee Sprout; two brothers, Gary Jensen (Kathleen), Ron Jensen (Wendy) and a sister, Nancy (Gudim) Jensen (Bill), and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, May 2 at First Baptist Church of Tellico Village at 1:30 pm. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Since Doug had a personal interest in the "Our Place" Alzheimer/Dementia Care Center, the family suggests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made in either of the following ways:

  1. You may make a donation to "Ride to Remember" and mail it to First Baptist Church of Tellico Village, 205 Chota Road, Loudon, TN 37774, or drop it off at the church office.
