Hamlet Protein, multinational producer of soy-based protein ingredients for young animals, participated in the 17th CAHE (China International Animal Husbandry Expo) that took place September 4-6 in Changsha.
After months of travel restrictions due to Covid-19, CAHE was the first major feed industry exhibition to welcome nutritionist and veterinarians from integrators, feed mills and premixers, as well as academics from across China. 1,200 Companies exhibited at the show that attracted more than 140,000 visitors.
The swine industry in China has been severely affected by ASF, recent heavy rains and flooding, and Covid-19. This will lead to an estimated decline in pork production in 2020 of approximately 15%. The shortfall in production is partly compensated by increased imports. Piglet prices continue to rise, following a shortage of piglet supply.

Shortages in pork supply help drive demand for poultry. A further recovery in foodservice will create additional demand. However, as a production increase is foreseen for H2-2020, poultry price levels are not expected to move much.
“The Chinese government has announced its intention to eliminate the use of antibiotics in livestock feed. The implementation of this new policy is directly impacting the feed industry. At the CAHE we noticed an increasing interest in our highly digestible soy protein specialties.
