On September 25, the United States Energy Information Administration (EIA) released its completed data for recent domestic ethanol production, with the figures showing continued modest improvement during 2019 before significant reductions amid the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic this past spring.
According to a report at Thomas, the EIA’s data showed that the U.S. produced 17.3 billion gallons of ethanol between January 2019 and January 2020, or 1.1 million barrels per day — up 3% from the year prior. It marked the fourth straight year that daily production has topped 1 million barrels.
The EIA’s September Short-Term Energy Outlook forecasts U.S. ethanol production to average 0.90 million barrels per day in 2020 — down 13% from 2019. ottoming out at 0.56 million barrels per day in April, that figure is expected to rebound to 0.98 million barrels per day in December.
