According to a report at the Ames Tribune, the Story County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday unanimously approved the zoning requests and development plan for a new grain facility outside Collins, IA.
Once all the improvements are finished — grain bins, receiving pits, a scale and eventually an office building — the project is estimated to cost Landus Cooperative about $13.7 million, said company COO Brett Bell.
“We’re very excited about it,” he said.
The facility, at 69866 Iowa Highway 210, will be the third in the immediate area. Landus has facilities in Collins and Maxwell and uses the site it plans to develop as a “bunker” receiving and storage facility for grain.
According to the county’s planning and development staff, Landus is trying to both increase storage capacity and improve customer service with the new digs, which will sit on nearly 13 acres.
One person who lives near the site contacted the county, stating concerns over the view and construction noise. Conversely, a member of the public spoke up at Tuesday’s meeting, saying, “I see this really being a benefit to the community.”
