On Tuesday, the Cedar Rapids city council decided against plans to move forward on a rail yard for a Cargill corn milling plant in a Cedar Rapids, IA, neighborhood.
According to KCRG, the Cargill rail yard has been a contentious proposal for more than a year. It would have store up to 200 freight cars and move them between the corn milling plant about a mile away.
Cargill had promised neighbors it would take measures to reduce noise, light and other disturbances.
“Their vote didn’t approve or deny us from building a rail yard,” Cargill Cedar Rapids Corn Milling Facility Manager Dan Pulis said in a statement to KCRG after the meeting. “As a result, we are prepared to continue to designate resources to find a path forward.”
