Feed Energy announcs the recipients of its 2018 “Excellence in Ag” Scholarship Program. Each will receive a $2,500 scholarship from Feed Energy for the 2018-2019 academic year.
Henrique Scher-Cemin
Henrique Scher-Cemin is originally from Porto Alegre, Brazil. He obtained his degree in Veterinary Medicine from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, in 2013 and his master’s degree in Animal Science from the same university in 2016.
Henrique joined Kansas State University in 2016 as a PhD student with the Applied Swine Nutrition Team. His research focuses on determining the histidine requirements for nursery pigs, effects of zinc and copper sources for nursery and grow-finish pigs, and evaluating novels DDGS sources for nursery pigs. Henrique lives in Manhattan, KS, with his wife Mariana, who is also a PhD student in swine nutrition.
Nora Faris
Nora Faris of Concordia, MO, is a 2018 graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia, where she studied science and agricultural journalism. During college, Nora worked as a TV news reporter for mid-Missouri's NBC station, covering agricultural news and state and local politics.
She furthered her interests in agriculture and public policy as an intern for the Missouri Farm Bureau, the American Seed Trade Association, the Corn Refiners Association, and the U.S. House of Representatives. This fall, Nora will pursue a law degree and post-graduate studies in international trade at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. Following law school, Nora plans to pursue a career in agricultural policy, law and trade.
These two students were chosen out of 25 applicants for their superior leadership in the classroom, perspectives on the future of animal agriculture and for their overall support to the future of the industry.
