USPOULTRY Recognizes Six Family Farm Environmental Winners
The U.S. Poultry & Egg Association (USPOULTRY) honored winners of the Family Farm Environmental Award at the International Production & Processing Expo (IPPE). Given in acknowledgment of exemplary environmental stewardship by family farmers engaged in poultry and egg production, the winners were: Bill Knapke, Meiring Poultry Farm, Ft. Recovery, OH; Craig Miller, Miller Farm, Harrisonburg, VA; David Warnke, Warnke Farm, Stover, MO; Garry Staple, White Acres Farm, Steele, AL; Ramiro Rosales, Texas Pride Poultry, Clifton, TX; Jeff Cederlind, Cederlind Farm, Winton, CA.
Applicants were rated in several categories, including dry litter or liquid manure management, nutrient management planning, community involvement, wildlife enhancement techniques, innovative nutrient management techniques, and participation in education or outreach programs. Applications were reviewed and farm visits conducted by a team of environmental professionals from universities, regulatory agencies, and state trade associations in selecting national winners.
