President Joe Biden has designated Robert Primus as the new chairman of the Surface Transportation Board (STB). National Grain and Feed Association (NGFA) President and CEO Mike Seyfert welcomed the appointment with the following statement:
"NGFA congratulates Chairman Primus on his appointment to this well-deserved role. Under his leadership, STB can continue to pursue a modern and more balanced approach with knowledgeable and objective members. We look forward to continuing to work with Chairman Primus on fostering an efficient and competitive railway network for the U.S. agricultural supply chain."
NGFA, along with 23 other agricultural groups, had previously sent a letter supporting Primus's swift appointment following the announcement of former Chairman Martin Oberman's retirement. The letter highlighted Primus's commitment to improving rail service, enhancing rail-on-rail competition, and developing streamlined methods for freight rail customers to challenge unreasonable rates.
Former Chairman Oberman announced in April that his retirement would begin on May 10.
